PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical displacement gage capable of satisfactorily maintaining visibility of a measurement position even if the quantity of measuring light is extremely reduced by automatic control corresponding to a high- reflectivity object, or the like. SOLUTION: This optical displacement gage has a light receiving means including a photographing element for photographing an object of measurement by periodically opening a shutter, a light projecting means for forming a light spot for measurement by projecting light onto the object from a light emitting device periodically emitting light synchronous with the shutter opening period of the photographing element, an computing means for computing objective displacement based on positional information on a light spot image in a picture obtained from the receiving means, and a control means for controlling the quantity of light coming into the photographing element by operating a light projection gain adjusting element of the projecting means. This gage is further equipped with a light projecting means for visual recognition for forming a light spot for visual recognition by projecting light to the same position as the light spot for measurement on the object synchronously with the shutter closing period of the photographing element.
