PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an embossed decorative material and a manufacturing method thereof which enable execution of embossing producing a design effect even on a thin base sheet. SOLUTION: A base 1 has a plurality of groove-like recess parts 3 shaped like sections of wood grain vessels in the surface thereof, and the part of the surface of the base 1 between the groove-like recess parts 3 adjacent to each other is made a projecting curved surface which projects in the direction connecting the adjacent recess parts 3, but is flat in the direction along the recess parts 3. An embossing plate for shaping this surface is manufactured by a method wherein a resist pattern conforming with the shapes of sections of the wood grain vessels in plan view is formed on the surface and, after the parts corresponding to the sections are covered with a resist film, a non- resist part is corroded by two-stage corrosion by a shower corrosion method wherein a corrosive liquid is blown against this part and then by a touch roll corrosion method wherein a Morton covering roll impregnated with the corrosive liquid is brought into contact with the part.
