PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of after-treatment of a carbonylation reaction mixture of a halogenated acetic ester by which sodium chloride having a product quality suitable for the use in an electrolytic soda process is produced in improved product yield. SOLUTION: This method of the after-treatment of the carbonylation reaction mixture of the halogenated acetic ester comprises extracting an aqueous phase with an extractant, treating the extract and an organic phase in a cleaning step, precipitating a transition metal, optionally removing the remaining trace of the transition metal by a selective ion exchanger, acidifying the aqueous solution, heating and decomposing the materials in the acidified aqueous solution, and collecting an alkali metal chloride by evaporation and drying of the decomposed aqueous solution.
