PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory property bistable type liquid crystal display device capable of performing uniform display to the entire display area. SOLUTION: In this liquid crystal display device A, a scanning electrode member 6 in which a color filter 2, an overcoat layer 3, scanning electrodes 4 and an oriented film 5 are successively laminated on a transparent substrate 1 and a signal electrode member 7 in which signal electrodes 9 and an oriented film 10 are formed on a transparent substrate 8 are arranged through chiral- nematic liquid crystal 13, and the initial twisted angle of a non-display area 15 is made to be different from that in a display area 12.
