The invention concerns the generation of optical carriers in optical transmission systems with RZ signals. It concerns a device for generating RZ signals, comprising optical sources delivering wavelength multiplexed input signals, an optical clock delivering a clock signal, and an optical gate receiving on its input the multiplexed optical signals and on its control input the clock signal. The optical gate delivers in output RZ signals. The optical gate is a loop non-linear mirror with one or two optical amplifiers, and one or two control inputs for injecting into the loop the clock signal. The invention enables to generate quality RZ carriers, from a single optical clock.
