998,011. Thermographic materials. COLOMBIA RIBBON and CARBON MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. March 7,1963, No. 9082/63. Drawings to Specification. Heading G2C. Images are produced on a copy sheet by superimposing infra-red absorbing characters, a copy sheet and a transfer sheet and heating, the copy sheet having a non-heat transferable coating of a material which in its melted state is a solvent for the colour-forming material crated on the transfer sheet so that on heating the colour-forming material is dissolved and absorbed by the melted solvent on the copy sheet. The colourforming material may be a hectograph dye or an organic acid, a thiocyanate salt or a ferro-orferri-cyanide salt; the copy sheet containing the other colour former such as a ferrie, cupric, manganese, lead, silver, mercury or nickel salt. Alternatively, both colour-forming compounds may be in the transfer sheet and the copy sheet contains the acid or alkali necessary for reaction. Specified heat-fusible solvents are fatty acids and alcohols such as stearyl alcohol and palmitic acid, glycol fatty acid esters and polyethylene- and polypropylene-glycol ethers which are applied to a rough absorbent support in an amount just sufficient to cover the support.
