A vacuum switch has contacts generally of the form described in the main Specification, the inner edges of the ridges 11, 12 being chamfered to provide substantially frustoconical surfaces at 17, 18. This is stated to increase the arc voltage in the chamfered region and therefore to cause the arc sheet to be spread more uniformly across the radial width of the ridge, counteracting the pinch effect. The chamfer may be straight or curved in crosssection. |
