PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting method for halogen ions capable of continuously measuring the concentration of halogen ions simply with high sensitivity. SOLUTION: A solution containing at least one kind of halogen ions selected from among chorine ions, bromine ions, and iodine ions, is electrolytically oxidated, and then it is brought into contact with a chemiluminescent 2,3- dihydro-1,4-phthalazinedione compound, thereby generating chemiluminescence. The concentration of the halogen ions is determined by measuring the intensity of the chemiluminescence. Luminol or isoluminol is preferable as the 2,3- dihydro-1,4-phthalazinedione compound.
