PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing a reduced metal having low sulfur (S) content without particularly using the high grade of carbonaceous material when a reduced iron is produced in a traveling hearth type furnace. SOLUTION: When the reduced metal is obtained by charging raw material in the furnace hearth horizontally traveled, in the traveling hearth type furnace and heating and reducing the above raw material during traveling the furnace hearth in the furnace, the reduced metal produced on the furnace hearth is made to molten state at least once and also, the hydrogen-containing gas is brought into contact with the produced molten metal.
