PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide excellent in transparency, low dielectricity, low water-absorbing capacity and solubility in a solvent and also excellent in high thermostability, high refraction and melt moldability, and suitable for use as optical fiber, optical waveguide path, optical disk foundation bed, optical filter, heat-resisting thin lens, optical adhesives, and the like. SOLUTION: The aromatic polyimide containing repeating structure units represented by formula (2) and an aromatic diamine represented by formula (1) which is a raw material of the polyimide are provided.
