PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt conveyor capable of driving an endless belt floated by the force of the air, and capable of being enlarged to effectively convey an article to be conveyed of heavy weight. SOLUTION: Hydrostatic air chambers 30, 31, 32 are formed between a trough 11 and the endless belt 13. The endless belt 13 and the article 14 to be conveyed are supported by the hydrostatic air supplied into the hydrostatic air chambers 30, 31, 32. An air supplying mechanism 15 for supplying the pressurized air between the trough 11 and the endless belt 13 is mounted to form the hydrostatic air chambers 30, 31, 32. Further sealing mechanisms 17 for defining hydrostatic air chambers 30, 31, 32 are mounted.
