Vinyl esters of fluorinated aliphatic acids of the formula <FORM:0998916/C2/1> where R is a fluorine substituted C1 to C5 alkyl radical optionally containing also chlorine, the total number of halogen atoms being 3, are made by passing a stream of gas containing dry acetylene through a heated liquid mixture of the corresponding halogenated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having a boiling point above that of the ester produced, a vinylation catalyst and a polymerization inhibitor, heating the mixture to a temperature between the boiling points of the acid and ester, separating the acid and ester from the antiflowing gas stream, recycling acetylene to the reaction zone, separating the condensed acid and ester, recycling the acid to the reaction zone and removing the ester produced from the system. Specifically named starting materials are the trifluoro acids, acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric and caproic and chlorodifluoro acetic acid. The examples describe the syntheses of vinyl, trifluoroacetate and vinyl chlorodifluoroacetate.
|
