PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a removal method for a dam ring for shortening an interruption period of time of a solid waste processing. SOLUTION: A removal method for a dam ring in a combustion/melting rotary kiln is adapted as follows. When a dam ring is formed in a combustion/ melting rotary kiln for a solid waste, throwing of a solid waste is interrupted to keep temperature in the rotary kiln at an ordinary operation temperature. Then, glass that is a part of a slag component, i.e., glass having lower melting temperature than slag is thrown to produce molten glass. Further, the molten glass is brought into contact with the dam ring to force it to react with the slag constituting the dam ring, whereby the molten temperature is lowered to melt and remove the dam ring. After the dam ring is thoroughly removed, a solid waste is again thrown to force it to react the molten glass for formation of a slag layer.
