A monitoring apparatus 10 sited relative to a source of radio frequency radiation such as a communications mast 28 detects the E-field and H-field intensity and provides an alarm when the intensity emanating from the source exceeds a predetermined value. The apparatus has a wireless communication device for sending an alarm message indicating the apparatus and source to a remote receiving station 30. The apparatus may also continuously monitor the source and provide data to an Internet accessible database. The apparatus may include motion sensors which generate an alarm if the apparatus is tampered with.
