PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a load applied on a valve system at a transient time, in a compressed pressure opening type brake device. SOLUTION: In a compressed pressure opening type brake device provided with an exhaust brake valve 3 interposed in an exhaust passage 2 of an engine 1 and a compressed pressure opening type brake for switching a lift characteristic of an exhaust valve 5 of the engine 1, the exhaust brake valve 3 is closed after the compressed pressure opening type brake is operated when the brake is operated.
