A portable wireless data transmitter (1) such as portable telephone or the like includes a battery voltage monitoring circuit (7) which detects the voltage of a battery used as a voltage source for the transmitter (1), and a status judging unit (8) supplied with the detected voltage value from the battery voltage monitoring circuit (7) to produce a control signal with which the operations for data transmission are controlled. Thus, the data transmitter (1) can be operated for an increased length of time with minimum change in status of communications due to a temperature-caused degradation of the battery characteristic.
