PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and stably manufacture an electrophotographic photosensitive member having excellent characteristics such that a coating solution is efficiently and uniformly applied to the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical object to be coated and the layer previously applied to the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical object is not eluted when applying the coating solution. SOLUTION: In an apparatus for manufacturing the electrophotographic photosensitive member by coating the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical object 10 to be coated with the coating solution 2, a coating solution supply part 13 for coating the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical object 10 with the coating solution flowing out from the upper end of a guide part permitting the object to pass is provided on the outer peripheral side of the guide part and a coating solution recovery part 15 for recovering the coating solution flowing out from a partition wall 14 is provided on the outer peripheral side of the coating solution supply part and an openable and closable communication part 16 for allowing the coating solution supply part and the coating solution recovery part to communicate with each other is provided.
