PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine capable of effectively restraining vibration by use of a cylindrical hollow balancer having a liquid sealed therein. SOLUTION: The cylindrical hollow balancer 9 having the liquid sealed therein is installed to surround the outside of a drum 2. If eccentric load due to the localization of laundry is great, a rotating speed is controlled to decrease at the time when the position where the eccentric load is located reaches the upper point of rotation, so that the liquid in a room located at or near the position of the eccentric load flows out into another room located at or near an opposite position. The liquid in the room at the position where the eccentric load is located is decreased and moves into the other room in the opposite position to vary the weight balance of the liquid to thereby reduce the eccentric load of the entire drum 2.
