PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a condition, such that the outflow of heat energy through inlet and outlet gaps is extremely reduced and there is almost no contact point between a strip-like sheet and a mechanical cutting-off means, to the regions of the inlet and outlet gaps of a strip-like sheet treatment apparatus. SOLUTION: A laminar air flow is generated at least between a lower gap restriction member and the strip-like sheet in a heat treatment apparatus, that is, in the regions of inlet and outlet gaps of the heat treatment apparatus. The air flow forms an air cushion between the strip-like sheet and a laminar flow guide means and this air cushion is kept over the vertical regions capable of being decided before and behind the inlet and outlet of the heat treatment apparatus and, next, the air cushion is expanded before the inlet gap and behind the outlet gap to be drawn in a heat treatment chamber or the proper device of the heat treatment chamber as expanded air.
