PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide device for the entrance to a universal mill and a method by which an H shape steel material can be precisely fed to the mill to align the center of the steel material in the center of the mill. SOLUTION: In the guide device 100 for the entrance to the universal mill which guides an H shape steel material to the entrance of the universal mill 1, comprises a pair of right and left flange outside guide rolls 41, 42 of both sides of, which contacts with the flange outer surfaces H shape steel material, rotates by driving, and can displace in the lateral and vertical directions, and a pair of flange end guide rolls 51, 52 which are arranged on both sides of the exit of the flange outside guide rolls and freely rotatably, contacts with the edges of the upper and lower flanges and displaceable in the vertical and the lateral directions.
