PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To share a printing control process between a case where printing is carried out on a recording paper stored inside and a case where printing is carried out on an outside recording paper, and print with the same printing margin kept to a leading end. SOLUTION: A loading completion state in the case of the rolled paper 40 or the insertion of a leading end into the apparatus in the case of the cut paper is detected by a first paper sensor (a paper end sensor) 27a. As a result, the recording paper is carried into the apparatus from a paper insertion opening 18 to a common transfer path 20b by reversing transfer rollers 24 and 25. The carrying is stopped when an insertion rear end of the recording paper (the leading end in the case of the rolled paper) passes a position of the sensor 27a. A thermal head 23 is butted against the paper at this time to start printing one line by one line. At the same time, the transfer rollers 24 and 25 are rotated forward to send out the recording paper one line by one line, so that the recording paper is delivered from the paper insertion opening 18 while being printed. The printing margin of the leading end of each recording paper becomes from a position where the thermal head 23 is butted at the carrying stop position to a position corresponding to the paper end sensor 27a.
