PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the entry of chips produced at the time of working an inside diameter hole into a space between a stopper part and a chuck jaw on a chuck entering between the chuck jaws as the stopper part does not con tinue in the chuck circumferential direction. SOLUTION: A work W having a through inside diameter hole H is pushed on a front surface of a stopper part 28 while making a chip cover 31 retreat against spring force. A ring blocking surface 36 of the chip cover 31 is blocked by pressurizing it along an overall periphery on an edge part of a chuck body side opening H1 of the inside diameter hole H on a chuck body side end surface E of the work W. In this state, an outside diameter of the work W is grasped, and the inside diameter hole H is worked. Chips produced at the time of working can be prevented from entering a space S in the circumferential direction made between the stopper part 28 and a base jaw 14 as the chuck body side opening of the inside diameter hole H is blocked by the chip cover 31.
