PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic instrument capable of being reduced in size, rapid in response and performing ideal brightness control. SOLUTION: A light source device 4 is constituted of an operation panel 31 for setting brightness, a brightness setting circuit 32 for setting the brightness of emitted light to a designated set value, a brightness comparing circuit 33 for comparing the set signal from the brightness setting circuit 32 with the brightness signal from the brightness signal generation circuit 24 of a CCU 6, a liquid crystal control circuit 34 for controlling the pattern of a liquid crystal panel 14 on the basis of the comparison result in the brightness comparing circuit 33, a timing adjusting circuit 35 for outputting an adjusting signal for adjusting the drive timing of the liquid crystal panel 14 and a liquid crystal drive circuit 36 for driving the liquid crystal panel 14 on the basis of the pattern controlled on the basis of the adjusting signal by the liquid crystal control circuit 34.
