PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the safety of the work and improve the washing effect in an immersion tank of a long strip washing apparatus. SOLUTION: A washing apparatus is provided with an immersion tank 7 to immerse a long strip rolled like a roll in a washing liquid for a prescribed duration and a washing tank 1 for washing the long strip after immersion. In the immersion tank 7, upper and lower two-step type reciprocating immersion channel is formed and a loading inlet also working as a taking outlet 31 for a roll-like long strip is formed in an upper part of one end in the transportation direction. A circulation type conveyer 30 is so installed as to form the going passage 44 in the upper step and the coming passage 45 in the lower step of the reciprocating immersion channel, and there is provided a circulation path of a washing liquid in the immersion tank 7, in which the washing liquid is discharged out the lower step homeward passage 45 and a purified washing liquid is returned to the upper step outward passage 44.
