A feed for poultry comprises a basic growth food having an addition of powdered xanthophyll-containing material produced from xanthophyll-containing petals of flowers which range in colour from yellow to deep orange, the addition being in sufficient quantity to provide xanthophyll serving to produce the required pigmentation. Flowers of the genus Tagetes, particularly marigolds, are specified. The additive material is preferably added in sufficient quantity to provide xanthophyll in an amount of from 10 to 80 grams of xanthophyll per ton of feed, and may consist of the entire flower head, including seeds, dried and ground. The following feed ingredients are mentioned: alfalfa, corn and maize of various varieties, and achiste. |
