A kitchen or sanitary installation, for example a typical domestic kitchen sink unit (1) set into an appropriate shaped aperture in a worktop (2), is provided with means to vary its appearance. In accordance with the invention, located below the sink unit (1) is a housing (10, 11) which is internally reflective and contains one or more sources of illumination (16). The sink unit (1) itself is manufactured from a plastics or resin-based composition which is translucent so that when the illumination device (16) are switched on, the entire sink unit appears to glow gently. |
