PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for processing image for performing natural edge enhancement and enhancing the sharpness of a picture by preventing the occurrence of preshoot or overshoot. SOLUTION: In a correcting signal operating part 5, correction pixels are provided at respective positions away from the present pixel and the next pixel for (k) between a present pixel and the next pixel, the data amount of the correction pixel on the side of the present pixel is found on the basis of the data amounts of the present pixel and a preceding pixel, and the data amount of the correction pixel on the side of the next pixel is found on the basis of the data amounts of the next pixel and a pixel after next. In a level correction part 8, the level of the found data amount of the correction pixel is corrected on the basis of an edge emphasis component found by an enhanced component operating part 6. Further, in a comparison/correction part 9, the data amount of the correction pixel corrected by the level correction part 8 is corrected so as to be within the ranges of the data amount of the present pixel and the intermediate data amount of the present pixel and the next pixel applied from an intermediate value operating part 7 or within the ranges of the intermediate data amount and the data amount of the next pixel. |
