PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform sampling while taking a delay time into consideration. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is equipped with an image pickup element 10 provided with plural photoelectric converting elements 4 and a timing generating means 12 driving the photoelectric converting elements, a pulse generating means 60 which controls the image pickup element, a sampling means 40 which samples the signal from the image pickup element, a timing adjusting means 18 which adjusts the timing of control pulses from the timing generating means 12 to the signal from the image pickup element. The image pickup device controls the sampling of the sampling means with the control pulses whose timing is adjusted by the timing adjusting means.
