PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst element integrated-type muffler for an internal combustion engine, capable of drawing out the operation of the catalyst element to the fullest extent, without impairing the muffling effect. SOLUTION: Both shielding plates 8, 12, provided in an inlet pipe 9 and an outlet pipe 13, have no holes, and one or both of the shielding plates 8, 13 are provided on the way of stream lining regions A, B in respective pipes 9, 13.
