The motor vehicle seat pivot has an inwardly toothed movable ring plate and a fixed plate. The two can be locked by sliding plates (11,25), one of which slides in divergent guides to define a wedge shaped gap to receive locking wedges (44). A control (16) displaces both locking plates simultaneously. The locking wedges are actuated when applied loads exceed a set value.
