PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a standard/high-definition television reception device which has a small circuit scale and reduced image deterioration. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a standard TV progressive scanning conversion circuit which converts the interlaced scanning of standard television signals to progressive scanning signals, a high-definition TV-to-progressive scanning conversion circuit which converts high-definition television signals to progressive scanning signals, a selecting circuit which selects and outputs one of the two converted progressive scanning television signals, and a TV system discrimination control circuit which discriminates which of the standard television signal and high-definition television signal constitutes an arrival television signal and controls the selection circuit.
