PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for recording which record information so that the information is easily transferred and managed when transferred between different recording media. SOLUTION: A recording area 200 on a hard disk 134 is divided into a tape management area 202 as a recording medium management information area, a block management area 204 as a block management information recording area, and fixed-length blocks 220 as blocks each having an information recording area and a management information recording area. Each fixed-length block 220 is divided into an individual block management area 206 as the management information recording area and a data area block 208 as the information recording area. When information is transferred to a magnetic tape 136, the information in its tape management area 202 is copied to a tape information area 302 of the magnetic tape 136.
