PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a specified cyanine dye as a labeling compound, having an effective structure for inhibiting the association of cyanine dyes in water. SOLUTION: This fluorescent labeling reagent contains a compound, represented by the shown formula (where Z is nonmetal atom group; R is an alkyl or an aryl; Q is methine group or polymethine group substituted with a heterocyclic group or an aromatic group; L is a connecting group consisting of a nonmetal group; s is 1-3; t is 1-4; Y is an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or the like; V is a substituent group excluding a sulfonic group; n is 0-4; M is a counter ion; m is a number required for keeping the balance of electrical changes; and at least one of a functional group reacting with an amino group, a hydroxyl group, or a mercapto group for forming a double bond and/or a carboxyl group is contained in the molecule).
