PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave oven that is capable of persuasive demonstration by actually detecting the temperature of an object to be heated in a demonstration mode. SOLUTION: The microwave oven is provided with a magnetron 7 that is connected to a commercial power supply 12 via a door switch 14 that is opened or closed in linking with the opening or closing of a heating chamber and supplies heating energy into the heating chamber, an infrared sensor 11 for detecting the temperature of the object to be detected being accommodated in the heating chamber, and a control circuit 18 that is connected to the commercial power supply 12 at the pre-stage of the door switch 14 and can execute the demonstration mode while maintaining the magnetron 7 in an inactive state. Also, the control circuit 18 is in a configuration for detecting the temperature of the infrared sensor 17 regardless of the opening or closing of the door.
