PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonmagnetic linear motion device of high corrosion resistance, having a high surface hardness and high corrosion resistance without crack occurrence, even under stress concentration by rolling elements, thereby maintaining a surface hardened layer over a long period of time and in its turn attaining a long service life at a low cost. SOLUTION: In a linear guide 10 serving as the linear motion device, where a baring 2 which is an outer member, and a guide rail 1 which is an inner member, are moved relatively via the rolling of a plurality of rolling elements B inserted in between, at least one of the bearing 2 and the guide rail 1 is formed into a prescribed shape by plastic working using austenite stainless steel with superior corrosion resistance to heighten hardness and to improve durability. Furthermore, the surface is provided with a special carbon solid solution layer to attain the purpose.
