The heat regulator consists of a thermal energy storage unit (12) coupled to a thermal regulating fluid circuit (14) regenerated at least partly by heat from the exhaust system (20). The storage unit is also coupled thermally to a regeneration fluid circuit (22) that is coupled thermally to the exhaust system by a heat exchanger (24). The regulating fluid circuit contains engine coolant, i.e. a mixture of water and antifreeze, and the regeneration circuit carries a similar mixture.
