PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for quickly performing quantitative evaluation of thermal stability of a glass material which was conventionally difficult. SOLUTION: This glass physical property evaluation method is constituted of a glass sample forming process, which consists of a process 10 for heating a tubular cell, a process 20 for immersing the lower end of the tubular cell into a glass molten liquid, a process 30 for sucking air from the upper end of tubular cell and sucking the glass melting liquid into the tubular cell, and a process 40 for cooling down the tubular cell, and a glass sample evaluation process 50 collecting data of transmission of the glass sample or data of transmitted light from a light quantity meter with a relative position between the tubular cell containing the glass sample inside and is varied. In this method, a process 35 for arranging the tubular cell in a space, having a different temperature inclination along the axial direction, is provided between the process 30 and the process 40.
