PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining fence which can be used for building excellent soil retaining works, which can be built easily, gives no fear of sediment runoff and has high strength and durability. SOLUTION: An end portion of an embedding lumber 11 is placed between two face of slope forming lumbers 12, 13 in parallel in a direction perpendicular to the lumber 11; the face of slope forming lumbers 12, 13 and the embedding lumber 11 are fastened by bolts 14 and nuts 15 inserted to through-holes, the coupling lumber 16 closes one side of a gap between the face of slope forming lumbers 12, 13 at the base end side 16b, and the tip end side 16a is arranged in a state where it is projected out from the gap in the longitudinal direction of the face of slope forming lumbers 12, 13, and the face of slope forming lumbers 12, 13 and the coupling lumber 16 are fastened with bolts 14 and through-holes and nuts 15.
