PROGRAM GUIDE DEVICE, AND DEVICE AND METHOD FOR INFERENCE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display program candidates matching the preference of a viewer. SOLUTION: Words and phrases constituting a program name are evaluated and according to the result, a program candidate is extracted. Here, the evaluation is carried out by referring to past program names which are already selected. The evaluation of words in an extracted information table shown in Fig. 9 is determined according to the total points of 'evaluation points of words themselves' and 'evaluation points of relevant words'. The 'evaluation points of words themselves' man that appearance frequencies of the words. The 'relevant words' stand for words identical to the considered words included in the program name and the 'evaluation points of relevant words' are the total of relative appearance probability × the appearance frequencies of the relevant words themselves. The relative appearance probability is the appearance frequency of simultaneous appearance frequency/corresponding word. The evaluation of the words and phrases which is thus obtained is applied to the name of a program expected to be broadcast and a program with high evaluation is inferred as a program that the viewer prefers more and preferentially displayed as a program candidate.
