PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively and smoothly move a bearing sleeve in the axial direction without being influenced by temperature rise during high-speed rotation. SOLUTION: This spindle device is provided with a bearing sleeve 20, fitted in an axially movable manner to the outer periphery of a main spindle 4 via a bearing 6 to impart pre-load to the bearing 6, a rear cover 3 fitted in an axially immobile manner to the outer periphery of the bearing sleeve 20, and a ball spline 30 provided between the outer peripheral surface of the bearing sleeve 20 and the inner peripheral surface of the rear cover 3 to guide the bearing sleeve 2 in the axial direction, when the bearing sleeve 20 is moved in the axial direction.
