Installation has set of aligned rollers (33) on side of support surface to constitute reference surface (34). Opposite the rollers and delimiting with them a corridor are two rollers (36A,36B) for applying one of the sides of crate onto reference surface. Downstream of these rollers is sensor (37) of measuring equipment which is applied on other side of crate to indirectly measure transverse dimension along its displacement and apparatus for analyzing measurements taken in order to compare them with reference values.
