PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of superimposing a desired display on a background picture. SOLUTION: Since a width of a wiring part and both gap parts (boundary parts) between adjacent segments forming a pattern are narrowed enough to make transparent, wiring patterns WP1-WP5 are made to be transparent and invisible when display patterns DP1-DP5 are made to be of high impedance, and only the segments forming the display patterns DP1-DP5 are displayed with cloudiness. Moreover, also when the display patterns DP1-DP5 are made to be transparent by applying a signal of an opposite phase to a transparent electrode layer on the rear surface to the display patterns DP1-DP5, a gap between the display patterns DP1-DP5 and the background pattern BP is made to be narrow enough, therefore, an electric field creeps into also this gap part having to electrode by the similar effect as above, and a high polymer dispersion type liquid crystal is made to be transparent and frames of the display patterns DP1-DP5 each become unobservable. |
