PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly and efficiently perform an editing work by enabling an arbitrary editing operation in accordance with user's instruction when editing an arbitrary character string in a sentence area on the basis of information related to layout components obtained by a layout recognition technique. SOLUTION: This device for editing document picture is provided with a layout analysis part 13 which analyzes the layout constitution of document picture data, a display management part 16 and a display part 17 which generate and display data for display in accordance with obtained layout information and the document picture data, an operation input part 15 which accepts user input, and a picture processing part 14 which displays an arbitrary designated character string range in distinction from the other character string at the time of designation of the character string range in the sentence part consisting of plural blocks in document picture data and executes editing processing of the character string range displayed in distinction at the time of input of an indication for editing of this range from the operation input part 15.
