PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent abrupt change in a heat gain by applying a simple control logic to a burner control method comprising a plurality of burners 1 which form flames in a furnace so as to supply the heat of combustion corresponding to a heat load by selecting a desired number of burners from the burners 1 and igniting the selected burners. SOLUTION: Before part of burners to be extinguished of burners selected from the burners 1 are extinguished, the set quantities of fuel supply to the selected burners other than the burners to be extinguished are increased based on the total quantity of fuel supply to all selected burners. Then, before burners to be added newly selected additionally to the selected burners are ignited, the quantities of fuel supply to the selected burners are decreased based on the number of the selected burners and burners to be added and the quantity of fuel supply to the selected burners after the burners to be added are ignited.
