PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a personal computer cannot be used simply as the storing device of a file to be used in a large general purpose host computer in a conventional technique. SOLUTION: When storing the file, based on a designated file name, the large general purpose host computer itself retrieves file managing information managed by its OS (step 101) Information (file structure and a file form) required for storing the designated file by means of the personal computer is obtained automatically (step 102) and the file is converted based on the information (steps 103 to 107). The converted file is compressed and processed with the file managing information (step 108) and transmitted to the personal computer (step 109). Furthermore, by processing opposite to it (steps 121 to 128), the file is read automatically from the personal computer.
