PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor, an image processing method and a printer output device for preventing the voids which occur inside the characters. SOLUTION: This image processor performs the necessary gradation processing to both a character area and a design area of input image signals and outputs the output image signals to a writing part having a laser. Then the image processor is provided with an SRAM 2 which stores a dither pattern to be applied to the input image signals, an address decoder 1 which decodes the address of the SRAM 2 that is accordant with the input image signals, a character/design switching position correction circuit 4 which corrects the character/design switching position of image area separation signals by referring to the output signals of the decoder 1 and a design/character selector 5 which selects the character area and design area of input image signals by means of the corrected image area separation signals.
