PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of bubbles due to residual air inside a reinforcing resin coating in an optical fiber splicing part. SOLUTION: A molding die 1 consists of an upper and lower dies 1a, 1b, at least one of which is made of a material that transmits ultraviolet rays such as quartz glass; the dies are provided with a cavity 3 shaped by grooves 2c, 2d each having a semi-circular cross section which are formed by linearly penetrating along each of the parting surfaces 2a, 2b of the upper and lower dies 1a, 1b respectively; and, in communication with the cavity 3, a resin filling gate 4 is provided at two places in the longitudinal direction, with a resin discharging gate 7 provided in the center of the gate. The splicing part of optical fibers 10 fusion spliced each other is inserted into the cavity 3 of this molding die 1. Then, an ultraviolet ray setting resin is filled from near the coating end of the optical fiber 10 into the cavity 3 around the exposed part of a glass fiber 11, irradiated with ultraviolet rays through the lower die 1b, and hardened to form the reinforcing resin coating. |
