PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information obtaining device capable of automatically and easily collecting information related with information (contents) inputted or obtained and stored and managed and a method for controlling this device. SOLUTION: This information obtaining device connected to an outside information providing means including the Internet so that information can be obtained is provided with a data inputting means 101 for obtaining or inputting arbitrary data, a data storing and managing means 102 for storing and managing the data, a specific data extracting means 104 for extracting data in which data fulfilling a certain specific condition are included from the stored and managed data, an information obtaining word and phrase extracting means 107 for extracting words and phrases related with information to be obtained from the extracted data contents, and a related information obtaining means 112 for obtaining information related with the extracted words and phrases. Thus, it is possible to obtain information related with the words and phrases included in the desired information to be obtained from the registered information.
