PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for surely recording discriminating information such as manufacture information of an optical recording medium on the medium at a low cost. SOLUTION: At the step to manufacture the optical recording medium having a recording layer and a reflection layer on a substrate the discriminating information is recorded irreversibly on the substrate or a part of the recording layer by irradiating there with the laser beam having 1-12 μm wavelength and 0.1-3 W emission power to excite the vibration mode of an organic compound constituting the substrate or a part of the recording layer.
