PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subscriber interface circuit that reduces the capacity of a RAM storing the firmware of the circuit so as to downsize and economize the subscriber interface circuit. SOLUTION: The firmware to realize a subscriber terminal termination function 101 and an interface function 106 with a host controller is divided into a plurality of applications conducting processing corresponding to an operation instruction from the host controller and a common part application for common control, and they are stored in a nonvolatile memory 103, when the subscriber interface circuit is started, the common part application stored in the nonvolatile memory is transferred to a work memory 102, the common part application stored in the work memory is used to a common function of the subscriber interface circuit and when receiving the operation instruction from the host controller, an application corresponding to the operation instruction is transferred to the work memory among a plurality of the applications stored in the nonvolatile memory to conduct the processing corresponding to the operation instruction.
